Lysine, commonly known as L-lysine, is an amino acid that is required for a variety of biological processes. Because amino acids mix with other substances to generate this macronutrient, they are referred to as the “building blocks of protein.”

Lysine is classified as an essential amino acid by the medical profession because, unlike some other amino acids, the body cannot produce it. As a result, people must incorporate it into their diet.
