BLIS M18™ is a specific strain of bacteria called Streptococcus salivarius M18, which is found naturally in your mouth and throat. While everyone carries the Streptococcus salivarius bacteria, our research shows that only a small percentage of the population carries the BLIS M18TM strain, which helps keep harmful bacteria in check.
Reintroducing beneficial bacteria that promote strong teeth and gums is the goal of BLIS M18. In addition to preventing cavities, this strategy works because the “good” bacteria (BLIS M18) outnumber the “bad” bacteria. In addition to preventing the return of harmful bacteria, BLIS M18 also inhibits them.
Blis Technologies and Stratum Nutrition, Blis’s exclusive ingredients distributor, announced the publication of two recent studies, an in vitro and a clinical trial, each of which investigated the effects of BLIS M18, a probiotic strain, on black teeth staining, and both studies found that BLIS 18 is effective at inhibiting bacteria that cause black teeth staining.
The cell-free supernatant of BLIS M18 was able to inhibit the growth of chromogenic bacteria responsible for black dental stains, which affect an estimated 1-2% of children and 1-6% of adults. Even after a professional cleaning, black dental stains often return.
After having the black stains professionally cleaned off, children who took part in the clinical trial of Blis M18 showed significantly less recurrence of the stains.
BLIS Technologies, a partner of Stratum Nutrition, has been producing excellent clinical research demonstrating the various effects and mechanisms of action of BLIS M18.
The unique bacteriocins and enzymes produced by BLIS M18 have been shown to inhibit the activity of specific bacteria responsible for black teeth stains, which in turn inhibits the formation of dental plaque, as seen in a recently published clinical trial.
We’re pleased to work with BLIS Technologies to learn more about this novel oral-colonizing probiotic, BLIS M18, because we know it has additional actions that benefit dental and gum health.
Because of its slow activation in the mouth, BLIS M18 is best administered in the form of a lozenge to maximise the amount of bacterial colonisation that occurs.
For the clinical trial involving humans, 58 kids between the ages of 4 and 10 who had developed black dental stains were randomly assigned to either receive the probiotic or receive no treatment at all.
After 3 months, 21.2% of the children in the probiotic group and 50% of the children in the control group showed evidence of black stains.
After three months, the test group stopped receiving the oral probiotic. Six months later, when testing was repeated with both sets of children, only 32.1% of those who had taken the probiotic still had black stains on their teeth, while 53.8% of those who had not taken the probiotic did.

What exactly does BLIS M18TM do?
Every day, billions of harmful bacteria invade the mouth, seeking to displace the normal, beneficial bacteria that live there.
Even if you brush your teeth thoroughly, the bacteria that cause cavities will still find a place to hide. This results in a shift or imbalance of the normally occurring bacteria in our mouths, which can have negative consequences for our oral health.
Reintroducing beneficial bacteria that promote strong teeth and gums is the goal of BLIS M18. It serves a dual purpose:
The cavity-causing bacteria are pushed out by the “good” bacteria (BLIS M18).
In addition to preventing the return of harmful bacteria, BLIS M18 also inhibits them. Think of it like a ‘force-field’ around your oral cavity.
When taken on a daily basis (ideally, one or two lozenges), it aids in keeping the mouth’s population of beneficial BLIS M18 bacteria stable. Although BLIS M18 cannot repair existing tooth decay, it can help prevent future cavities and promote healthy gums in both children and adults.
Regular dental care must be maintained in addition to using BLIS M18. It’s most effective when added to a regular routine of brushing and flossing.
How does BLIS M18™ work?
You should take BLIS M18 at night, after you’ve finished your dental routine (brushing and flossing). In the mouth, where it is warm and moist, the BLIS M18 bacteria thrives. Since BLIS M18 thrives in dry environments, nighttime is when it is most likely to colonise a human mouth.
The longer BLIS M18 is in your mouth, the better the colonisation will be, and the more the bad bacteria can be crowded out. This is why a lozenge, taken slowly, can help.
